Indo-US nuclear deal

I just went through this rather interesting Indian Express interview with Murli Manohar Joshi .. READ

Also this one, a counter point of view from Talveen Singh .. Read

There is however still time , God knows if the American President can convince the Democrat majority congress that too in an election year and what changes would they want. If the deal sees daylight , my only fear would be at the political end. Will the jokers in UPA be able to deflect the heat from US in case of any posturing from India which the Americans find hostile, cause they have been lacking to even counter the ever belligerent Communists, who seem more in opposition than an ally.

Lastly i found Brahma Chellaneys comments detailed and rather interesting too.

  1. Sorry did post accidentally in a hurry ,
First of all, joshi may not be ramanna .
But he has more sense than the current education minister or most of the upa bunch of ministers.
Im open to his comments if i find some sense in his argument and don’t like putting on blinkers just because he is extreme right of centre..
I put it up cause i found it interesting , at least he had some points or cautions which i did find valid like the Hyde act, and the american agenda of restricting India’s nuclear ambitions which is well documented, unlike the commi bunch which is opposed bcause china is, but would stand neutral in case of a bjp vote.
Im not against the deal as such, but loathe the Us. Remember they never have friends, only interests. plus god knows if it will pass in the democratic maj.US congress , still a long time to go !

  2. 1) //Remember they never have friends, only interests. //
i totally agree…. but this deal is in india’s interests.. what has the country to lose…? it does not stop us making new reactors for military purposes… or make new bombs?
    2) //US congress , still a long time to go !//
i agree but since we r not losing anything… because of the delay or because of the deal not going through… i am ok with the time

  3. it does not stop us making new reactors for military purposes… or make new bombs?

but will we and what about the implicit pressure tactics the us might use?

  4. the pressure was always there….
and still we did the test…. it would be wrong if we sign a test ban treaty and did the test..
or sign NPt and created warheads….
but apart from that its ok… atleast thats what i feel

  5. ok first the bjp did the testing – congress didn’t take decision for half a decade due to pressure
its how u handle the pressure, and i doubt if Manmohan is capable.
tell me- nkorea had joined the npt then used the clandestine cino- pak blueprint , hard bargained , nuke blackmailed nd now will get reactors fr free from us n allys !
Pak survives on US aid net net the rotton eggs get what they want , good countries r left behind ..

  6. //ok first the bjp did the testing//
    agreed

//its how u handle the pressure, and i doubt if Manmohan is capable.//
the deal is great.. and if u can handle the communist pressure u can handle everything

//tell me- nkorea had joined the npt then used the clandestine cino- pak blueprint , hard bargained , nuke blackmailed nd now will get reactors fr free from us n allys !//
that is why they r called rogue states… do u wish our country join this league?

//Pak survives on US aid net net the rotton eggs get what they want , good countries r left behind ..//
india is doing fine.. and with musharaff losing control over the courts… just like the dominoes effect… he is going to lose everything else

  7. yes this is life im getin a lot of crap comments from dd presenter fans on my dd post, urs are always welcome

i was just talking about realism, china is currently bigger a rogue than both pak and nk noone mentions their name.
yes all points very valid, but still my point on pressure is very valid
    and my sole worry

read chellaneys inferance , just added it

  8. remember last week I was saying how this deal will influence Australia… read the news… (i will see if I could write a post on it this weekend)
