Went for a detailed analysis on the mtnl site and came back with the conclusion -I DO Not Recomend This .

1. It is wireless access and has its disadvantages like disturbance, inteference and lack of signal quality in certain areas.
2. It does not include the ever increasing taxes ie 12.5 % service tax and cess.
3. People had a negative report on the older Garuda FW which had Dial up through in-built modem up to 14.4 kbps.
Positive is that it is wireless and great for people with laptops, who want to avoid wireless setups.
As per the website the New Garuda FW features new CDMA 2000 1X system
High Speed Data(Internet) Service : With the help of Garuda Mobile/FW you can access Internet at very high speed (144kbps).
That means a surfing speed is decent and it is not bad for chatting and likes . Assuming from the info download speed wd be 9~14 kbps during peak time n 12~15 kbps at nite from 4 to 9 kbps, thus it aint bad for the casual surfer.
So id only recommend it only to people living in areas having a clearer line of sight or closer to an mtnl cell tower. But from recent feedback if the speed one gets is 2 to 3kbps or 28.8 k then the scheme is indeed terrible and broadband though more expensive is still preferred.

Do to all the negative reports i have received in the comments i would generally tend to tell people to AVOID MTNL Garuda Unlimited Internet plan 299 and choose mtnl broadband or any other good broadband service in their areainstead.
Lastly people this is a blog not a complaint site so please dont give details like telephone nos and addresses cause i would not like to be held be liable if they are misused.

– How does it compare with the plug2surf or reliance connect.

+ Reliability
– Which interface is used to connect the laptop and the handset?
+ USB (reliance & tata both also provide a USB interface)
+ Express CArd/PCMIA
(On my laptop I just have a USB interface)
– YOu clearly mention that you still do not recommend this plan
+ Seems to be bcoz of the negative feedback from the earlier scheme. Is there anyother reason ?

as to its comparison u hve to ask someone that has actually used reliance/tata
but it should be having similar speed as both are cdma
none have unlimited plans and expect billing probs with reliance
mostly should be a usb data interphase or lan chk at 1502 mtnl helpline

Both Reliance and Tata Tele have unlimited surfing packages on their network…but the problem is availability. Not all places in Mumbai are covered.
If they extend the network, it’s worth it I feel.

I have taken this plan since 20 days.
Since then I have complaint to MTNL regarding non connection problem and super slow internet speed,, however there is no action taken .
Just the WORST PLAN AND WORST SERVICE.

Hi All…. my experience with Garuda Unlimited Plan of 299 has been a drastic experience.The ISP cliams to give a connectivity of around 115 kbps to 144 kbps,but still can be considered if one gets connected around 70 to 80 kbps speed.But what i have got thru this is just 28.8 kbps,nothing more ,nothing less.When called the technical Dept. all i cud hear was,there’s a problem with my PC,but the news is i got a brand new PC consisting of AMD Athlon 64×2 processor,with a 1 GB Ram.Sometimes i got a reply that my Firewall is blocking the internet speed,but even the turning Firewall OFF, didn’t help a thing.Making so many frantic calls to MTNL helplines have turned to be futile.
I am searching if someone could help me on this issue.

As garuda is a wireless medium i think the problem is in the connectivity ur phone is far away from the tower or is facing obstruction creating loss of signal
then again it could be a shitty backend of mtnl too …
Nope my friend,the fact is that my residence is located very close to the MTNL Exchange, where they have placed the tower for signals connectivity.I dunno which age does MTNL people live in,they have never thought about the customers service.No Knowledge,No Manners,No Professionalism,is the other name for them.
staying too close can also be problematic
try asking friends in ur area or try at a friends house in the area and see how it connects, go to the qcs and registr a written complaint then they have to work ! then again this is India and as per the feedback the plan is terrible

mostly it depends upon the speed of ur internet and correct software
do u get video through other msngers like msn and skype?
try installing latest yahoo msgr , or chk all setup options to see if u have disabled incoming

Unfortunately,we can’t get thru the firewall setting thru this Garuda. I suspect u too get connected to internet at the speed of 28.8kbps,which is the worst experience i am facing of the slow internet service.And the Garuda customer service too is fit for nothing.I had mailed to DGM of MTNL … but i guess he too is suffering from slow internet connectivity and is not able to access the e-mails.
I think the problem is with the firewall settings… but even if the firewalls are turned off…the problem lies the same.
OH MTNL !!Please have mercy on ur customers.
I got new connection on 19-9-07 of garuda unlimited internet plan. To my surprise it worked only for the first day, there after it is not geting connected at all. I get the error ” remote server does not respond” since than. It is really pathetic and shabby service of MTNL. Despite calling 1502 for many times no body has ever bothered to take care of my complaint. My complaint No. 83151. I strongly request everybody not to get lured with the ads being chrned out by MTNL and do not fall prey. Wake up MTNL. It is high time that you should become a professional service provider. God bless MTNL.
There is a problem with Garuda. Chandulal which instrumnet u are using? I also had this problema nd after a hard reset on the handset the connection is ok albeit very very sloooow.
I also cannot get any messengers (tried yahoo, MSN) to work.

144 kbps on any CDMA 2000 X1 network eg.Reliance, Tata, Garuda is like P.M.P.O. Actual speed depends on how many users sharing the same cdma cell tower. When i’m check reliance network speed on zdnetindia.com is shows only 11.5 kbps

I am also facing the problem what chandulal is facing. Everytime I try to connect, I get the error: “remote server does not respond”. I wish to reset my phone, but the prob is, I don’t see the option on my phone. I have a pantech FW phone which is a flap model (looks more like a cell). Does anyone have any idea on how to reset the phone. As mentioned by all, calling Garuda customer service is a waste, as they don’t know anything abt it.

Garuda is slow
Whenever, I called Garuda 1502 helpline, they admit there is problem in server and it would take 15 days to correct. They give some GMs number for further information. These phone numbers are never picked up.
In this month billing, on Rs 299 plan, they charged for Rs 328 toward PSTN charges. On complaining back, they said this is billing error would be adjusted next month, however, this month you should pay up this amout to avoid late payment charges. (God help MTNL customer)
I have taken this plan for last 3 months and hardly able to browse. Yahoo Messenger may work some time, but no voice chat or CAM possible due to limited band width.
Today, again on calling 1502 said, server is under maintenance and would be able to work only after 15th Dec’07. Why should I pay the monthly charges till that period if service can not be used.
I strongly recommend not to use this plan.

Dear Sir,
I own a Garuda FW Landline phone number x. I have been using the Garuda internet services under the plan 299 unlimited since more than 6 months now. From the beginning of the service till date, the internet service has remained unreliable and has never given proper speeds of even a dialup connection of 56 KBPS.
I have several areas to complain and want to know infomation as below
1. When will the Garuda services be at par with other CDMA services such TATA Indicom or Reliance CDMA and provide proper dialup speeds of atleast 144 KPBS without disrupting the service every other day.
2. When I call your call center number 1502, they always have a reply that the server is down and for any further information contact Bandra Kurla Exchange. Sadly, no one ever picks up the phone at Bandra Kurla Exchange, hence, I would like to know why you are maintaining such a USELESS call center where they have no answers to any questions related to Internet service. Moreover the call center is manned only from 7 am to 8 pm and not round the clock (although it would not make any difference). The latest information I got was that servers are down and service will resume on 15th Dec 2007, the date I had called was 6th Dec 2007, so it takes 9 days to rectify a problem, or this is a standard answer provided to consumers.
3. I have been repeatedly told that Mr. Gholap is the chief engineer who looks after the Internet services, but, he is never reachable either on his desk or his mobile number provided, nor an email is provided. The DGM Mr. Rahat Kumar is also not traceable, so who is the responsible person who can answer or solve my queries related to Internet.

I have taken a Garuda Internet Connection but very sorry to inform you that till date I could not get the proper services, first of all the Internet excess is very very very slow, secondly either you call to my no. or try to dial anywhere from the Garuda it disconnects two three times some times we cannot get the line and sound comes saying no. is out of reach.
I have lodged my complaints on 1502 customer care of Garuda but normally they tell us that their server is down or slow ? Some times they give us executives nos. which are not excessible.
I therefore request the higher authorities to either do the needfull to solve the problem or advice me to apply for the disconnection of the same and save me by paying MTNL every month.

I m a user of MTNL Garuda Unlimited Internet Plan. This plan is aan utter bull shit. They say that the connection speed is 144 Kb/s. But to frank enough it was only once that my device has connected @ 230.4 kb/s when i took the connection. After that till date it is connecting @ 28.8 kb/s. Also the connection is extremely Unreliable i.e may get DC any time. Also i noticed one prob with instrument that the instrument enters some Dormant Mode when connected sometimes. Additionally MTNL Customer care is pathetic. So on an all its not a good option. Reliance or TATA would be better then…….
299 plan is worst . Internet connection speed is very slow , some times i dont know why i will not be connected to internet even though i have full signal. and reply from phone banking , oh my god i am about to cancel my 299 Plan , my laptop is latest configuration still i wont have satisfying speed. i will suggest my friends to go for Broad Band instead . and bill payment through net my god i have not heard those restrictions.

I want to know if I am connected to internet then will I get Phone calls on the same MTNL Phone? OR My phone will not receive incoming calls during net surfing.

If I understand correctly when to connect using dialup you get a icon in the system try that says connected at so and so speed.
If that is the problem then here is a possible solution :
1. Left click on my computer and go to properties
2. Then to the device manager and look under the modems category
3. You should see some entry that says “USB MODEM”
4. Go to properties and then to “Modem” tab there check what is “Maximum Speed” selected. If is not on the max value possible change is so
That should solve the problem
However this is only the theortical speed possible and acutal speed may or may-not increase depending on your connection
Please change the setting and let me know what is the result as I am myself facing problem of painfully slow speed
For those want to see actual speed use DUMeter which has a free trail version. All those with speeds like 28.8 kb/s and above may be in for a surprise.
If now so please let me know.

I don’t know new Model Number.
Does it also need USB driver?
My old instrument HTP-801 (1.25yr old)
battery capacity came almost zero.
With a fully charged battery, battery gets low
within 1 call duration (3 mnts)

The lone heavy spammer, using email service in all countries, sent a billion emails every minute. Spam in our inboxes swelled up from 50 a day to 600 a day.
I began SPAM THE SPAMMER crusade on 04 March 2010. On 08 April 2010, I located this LONE heavy spammer using spry.com USA in bulk – the account was terminated on my complaint. On my first complaint, many accounts were terminated every hour. During recent days, he has been signing up debut accounts in new countries. Since 14 April SEVEN indian companies – RelianceTheCancer Sancharnet TataCom Railtel Airtel cert-in.org.in Vodafone – visibly came to rescue of dying world email spam. On 19 April the master spammer – hard disk harvester roped in Novanet first and then MTNL to make rescue team total nine. From circumstances, master spammer appears to be kin of either a minister or TRAI/DOT Chief in India.
The emails received have links which do not produce any page/error page. While victim waits for something to happen, image of hard disk is transmitted to spammer. He may be targeting bank passwords and precious software.
