Remembering Nilu Phule and classic Marathi Cinema

I grew up on a lot of marathi cinema and Chitrageet. Then again TV meant 1/2 Doordarshan channels  and lasted all but 4 hrs a day.

As i was having dinner, watchin TV, i just accidentally chanced upon Samna – a Patel classic written by  Vijay Tendulkar,  on DD Marathi/Sahyadri.

It reminded me of that golden era of vibrant Marathi films with stalwarts like its most famous villian Nilu Phule, the intellectual Dr Lagoo,  whose portrayal of a schoolteacher in V. Shantarams film Pinjra is unforgettable, the original double meaning Dada Kondke, the angry young villian Nana Patekar and numerous others.

Couldn’t help but wonder how long it had been, since  i last saw a good Marathi film. Anyways, im leaving u with a few classic songs thanks to youtube.

  1. Oh, so that’s where the Pinjra memories came from! 🙂

There was a discussion on Nita’s review of Me Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy, on good Marathi films in recent years – I had shared a few links. You might want to check that out.

  2. hey lovely collection. brought back a lot of old memories – including the saturday evening feature film on DD.
there are a lot of very good marathi films even now. check out valu, raja harishchandrachi factory, gabricha paus , de dekha – some funny, some serious !

  3. Cool suda,
as Sahitya sangh mandir was close by and i knew some people there,
i have seen a lot of drama actors in school and college times – even know some … but they are from the current lot.
